A Little Fun With My New Used Toy
« on: October 15, 2005, 08:06:34 AM »
I went out and bought me a new toy and needed to get it ready for the P Dawgs and other vermin. Well at least it is new to me. It (the barrel) is a 10" bull barrel from Bullberry in 222 Remington. So I loaded 10 rounds begining with 21.5 grains of Accurate 2230c powder and moved up ½ grain at a time.  I had 10 rounds at 21.5, 10 rounds at 22.0 and so on and so forth. I had loaded 50 rounds with a 46 grain Remington Hornet bullet each round touched off with a CCI 400 primer. The magic came at 22.5 grains of Accurate 2230c powder, I shot three 3 shot groups at 100 yards which produced 0.63 to 0.82 inch groups. Yes, I was happy! I zerod it (the scope)last Monday at the range and had it on at 200 yards. This barrel has never been bloodied by me or the previous owner. It was only shot by him 27 times at the range or at least that is what he claims. I stopped on the way home from work yesterday and I found my first target at 110 yards. I know this because I lazered it with my Leica LRF 800. There was a head wind that was 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. I held on the dawg's sholder and touched the 4 oz. trigger, at the report I watched the dawg flip into the air about a 1½', one shot one kill. His brother came out of a hole next to him to see what all the noise was. I ranged him, 113 yards again I touched the trigger and the dawg flipped in to the air. My next target was ranged at 234 yards, wind coming slightly to the right held 6" into the wind and on the head of the dawg, took a deep breath, touched the trigger and the dawg does 2 flips. Not too bad for 10 minutes. You gotto love WY.

Take a look at them below.

This is the set up that I used of the hood of the truck.

This was the long shot of the day for my 10 minute outing 234 yards.

These are the first two dogs that I shot
