7mm-08 vs 308 win for light deer rifle

I've got mixed feelings about this one.  A couple years ago I purchased a Browning Micro-medallion in .308Win.  It was a cute little rascal, weighed 6.0lbs with a short, thin 20" barrel.  Most of my shooting today is at the range, and I didn't properly consider this.  The rifle is a beast.  Recoil is so bad the forend now looks like I used it for fungo ball practice from jumping out of my front rest so often.  Of course you rarely feel the recoil when shooting at an animal.  I tamed it a bit with a Pachmyer Decelerator pad and wear a Past Recoil Shield when shooting it at the range.  I'm not particularly recoil sensitive, but this rifle is not for the newbie.  I don't think there'd be much difference in kick between my .308Win. and a 7/08.
I guess you have to consider how much you're going to shoot it and where.  Accuracy is acceptable.  Most times I can put a 5 shot group into one inch, but I'd sure as hell think hard before buying another lightweight rifle.  Best wishes.
