Trying to put together a hunt in AK/
« on: August 09, 2005, 10:13:58 AM »
My brother and I are in the beginning stages of putting together a hunt in Alaska.  I am looking for suggestions for guides and/ or locations for Moose, Black bear and Caribou.  I also have two custom rifles one in .375 H&H and one in .358 Norma Magnum.  Which is your choice.  I am looking for all ideas and suggestions because this is my first trip to AK!

You have a tall order here.  The best time for caribou is in the fall with moose.  Black bears are best in the spring.  Trying to set up one hunt for all three in one area with one guide is tough.

You might try these guys.  I was going to do a caribou drop hunt with them but then meet some friends that could do it a lot cheaper.

either gun is plenty and many would say too much. If you bring the Norma make sure you have enough ammo.  It isn't likely you'll find any in a remote Alaskan town.  The 375 is pretty easy to find ammo all over Alaska.

You might want to check these outfits.  The pilot for APGS is a neighbor, and so is the owner of Nushagak Outfitters.  I believe they run good operations.
