Compressed air gun questions
« on: August 05, 2005, 12:03:41 PM »
First poster on the airgun forum and LOTS os questions.

First, can anyone show me a source that details how airguns work inside.  Most interested in compressed air guns.

How do they contain the charge and how are thee shots regulated?

My sons have crossman break barrel guns that shoot pretty fast but I do NOT like the type of recoil and the spring noise.

Are there any AFFORDABLE compressed air guns out there?

Also I read an article about a guy with a DAC .25 and he had a supressor on the end of the barrel.  Are those legal for an airgun in the US?

Thanks all.

handirifle,

For an article on different types of air rifles go to http://www.beeman.com/types.htm.

About the best for the dollar are the ones from Air Force.  Go to http://www.airforceairguns.com/ to se their complete line.  While I don't care for them(personal reasons) they are accurate and powerful on top of being made in the good old USA.  If you want to go less in price then the Tech Force M50/51 will fill the bill.  Go to http://www.compasseco.com/article_xsb50.htm to read a review of them done by Randy Mitchell.  Also go to http://www.geocities.com/echochap/xsB50.html to read the review done by Jim Chapman on the XS B50(same as the Tech Force M50).  Go to http://www.compasseco.com/shop/products.html?maingroup=Tech%20Force%20Air%20Guns&secondgroup=Air%20Rifles and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the M50 & M51.  As far as suppressors goes the ATF doesn’t seem to care as there are a number of companies importing them.  I know a few years ago when I bought my Theoben Rapid 12/250 it came without a suppressor and a note included saying that due to current laws they wouldn’t ship suppressor equipped rifles to America.  Now they do so go figure.  Lawdog

Thanks for the info, will spend some time checking out the links.

Any comments on the Crossman AS1077T, the one with the external tank?  Other than looks, which are kinda funky the way the tank hangs?

Looking at the prices and my needs, I think the Techforce 78T would be a good starter gun.  600fps in 22 Cal.  Is that enough for small game hunting, like squirrels or rabbits?

Are the Techforce guns better than Crossman?

handirifle,

Crosman air guns have a reputation for having very good accuracy.  As for rifles that are powered by CO/2(even the 88 gram version) I really don’t care for them.  I have owned a couple of rifles and still own three pistols that are CO/2 powered but the cylinders seem to have a habit of being low or out of air just when you need them.  I have never shot either the Crosman AS1077T or the Tech Force 78T so I can’t comment on either.  Maybe some of the others have them or extensively shot them and they can give their opinions?  Lawdog
