I recently acquired a Weatherby Super Big Game rifle chambered in 257 Wby. I had read serveral threads which contain information on handloads for the 257 Wby, but at this point I am wondering what results folks have had with the factory loads. I antiicpate using the rifle for white and mule deer in Kansas.

I have had excellent results with Weatherby factory in my .257 Weatherby. For deer I would use eith the 115 gr. Barnes X-Bullet or the 120 gr. Nosler Partition load. Using any of the other loads available(87 or 100 gr. Hornady Spire, 115 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip or the 117 gr. Hornady RN) can/has ruined a lot of good meat. Weatherby ammo is excellent ammo, just a tad on the expensive side. Lawdog

When I got my 257 WBY I was shooting factory loads and they shoot accurately some bullets go into the same hole. I wouldn't think you would want more then that. Those 257s are very accurate rifles at least for me they are.

I've got a Mark V in .257 Weatherby. Bought a couple boxes of their 100 grain, hornady bullet factory ammo when I got the rifle (their cheapest load in that caliber). It will consistently group 3 shots within 1.25" at 100 yards and dropped a deer in its tracks last fall. Since then I've just been shooting handloads (I enjoy handloading, and that Weatherby ammo is expensive!).

I have a weatherby ultra/light 257wby . Using factory 117gr round nose, last year I droped a 150lb doe in her tracks at 360 yards.

I have a 257 wby mark v and have seen/shot two others. All 3 shot factory ammo extremely well. All groups were less than an inch. Most of what we shot were the 115 grain Nosler ballistic tips, but my step dad's gun shot every factory load we tried into a 3/4" group or better. You will not go wrong buying factory WBY ammo......as long as you can afford it.
