Is .450 marlin already dead???

I kinda want one of these barrels but after checking up on Midway's website I noticed that they have a no backorder on ammo and brass?? So now I,m kinda scared off from getting one.

A local gun shop had a .450 on the shelf for the longest time.  They had two boxes of ammo and it was over $30.00 per box. That was the only place I've seen any ammo in the surrounding area.  

By the way, the only other .450 H&R I've seen was in a gun shop near New Market, Virginia.  That was about six months ago and if I recall correctly they wanted $289.00 for it.  Don't know if they had the ammo.

I can't recall seeing any ammo recently.

I've wondered if the .450 will become "an object of desire" once they are entirely out of production.

Hornady is the only maker of 450 Marlin brass, along with 405 Winchester....I called Hornady to order some 405 brass direct, they won't be making any until the end of August, if then!!! The 450 could be in the same boat.  Fortunetly() for me, anyway, Hornady 405 Winchester ammo is available locally..........................at $29 a box!!!

As long as the 45/70 is around, the 450 Marlin will remain a niche round.  A very very small niche.

I had a 450 but didn't keep it long enough to start reloading for it. I don't think you will go wrong if you buy one. Mine shot great. 1 1/2 at 100 yrds. Ammuniton is expensive. The cheapest i've seen it is $26 a box. Hornady and Buffalo Bore are the only manufactures that i know of that makes the round. If you get one just be sure to reload for it.

As far as ammo for the 450 goes Natchez has the Hornady load on sale this month for $20.73.  I think Buffalo Bore has a load or 2 for it and conley precision has several loads with premium bullets (for folks that don't handload).

This is one of those debates that never will end... :-D  
 
No...the 450 Marlin won't go away as a factory cartridge...at least not for a while...but...if the sales of the 450's in the Handi don't meet the companies expectations...then don't expect the barrels to be available for ever...
 
If your a collector...I would suggest buying one...if you just like to be different...go for it...nothing wrong with just wanting something different from the pack.....if your a testosterone junky and just need a belted magnum cartridge to make you feel powerful...then this one is right up your alley...and should provide you with plenty juice...but...if you are a realist...then you already know the 45-70 is everything and more than the 450 Marlin will ever be...with much cheaper brass that will give you more reloads per case...more factory rounds available in all power loads...all in all...being a better all round cartridge..

In my current issue of Shooting Times, there is an article where Winchester is chambering a Model 94 in the 450 Marlin. It looks like the cartridge will be around for at least a little while longer. I bought one about 2 years ago and am getting 1 inch or less groups with it at 100 yards. I did buy the reloading dies when I purchased the Ultra as the ammo is rather expensive.

Well, it offers no advantages to the Handi or Marlin user over the 45-70,
even though I have one in an Ultra because of a very good trade. But, it
does have a couple of niche markets, those being the BLR & bolt rifles
because the rim design lends it's self to these applications.
