Hi all,
Virginia has finally included crossbows for archery season so I'm really excited.
I have an old Barnett Commando (175#) that I bought in the early 80's and I need a new string and (hopefully) an owners manual. The string that on it now has the center serving worn preety badly. Does anyone know of a source? Thanks for any help.

Hi and welcome I am getting one of these my self. A friend is giving me one. Is this the one with the brass frame? They look like a nice xbow I should get mine this week. For the Manual you can go to Barnett and ask them if they have them. They do not show the Commandos on the website for the USA Barnett Company based in Florida but you can order a string from them and see if they still have the manual. OR you can go to the UK site that still do sell the Commando II's and they have the manual for the Commando II which I am thinking is very close to the origional. About the string any good bow shop in your area should be able to order you one if you do not want to order one from Barnett and from what I have seen most Barnett Recurve xbows have the same size prod and use the same string. Or they are darn close.

Note when you get the string make sure you wax it well before you use it and make sure you lube the rails of the xbow ( Arrow Channel) with Lube about every 10 to 15 shots this will help keep your string in good shape. They make rail lube that is expensive about 10 bucks a tube. Some folks at the Excaliber sight use the following for rail lube and have had no complaints.

Some folks use the bow string wax others car wax others a mixture of bees wax and oil others Sewing Machine oil or any light machine oil the biggest thing is to keep it lubed so the string does not wear out so fast. jim

Thanks fo the info. I got an 800 # from the Barnett USA website so I'll give them a call.

If I can't get a new string in the next month I'm just going to break down and buy a new xbow. :wink:

I asked my local bow shop to order me a string for my Barnett and it took about three days to get. Just find out what the size is and tell them. it should be around 25 to 26 inches. If you do not have a local bow shop you should be able to order right from Barnett. It should only take a few days. If you have a local bow shop have them put it on it is easier with a bow press than doing it your self. If not and you do not have the Wire cable that Barnett supplies with their xbows for restringing ask them for one of those too. The wire is just like a bow string only made of cable to help you get the old string off and the new one on. Jim
