mount question
« on: August 09, 2005, 05:09:51 AM »
Well I committed myself to getting a new G2 frame by buying a decent looking .44 10" bull barrel at the gun show last weekend. I haven't had a Contender for more than 20 years and I'm pretty pumped about getting re-addicted to these. I do have a question about mounts however. I used to use the TC rail mounts with TC RP scopes on my old setup but there are a lot more options today.

I plan on putting a Bushnell Trophy red dot 1X30 on this barrel that has been laying around for awhile. Has anyone used the B-Square one-piece base and 30mm rings on their rigs? The rings look hell-for-stout and the price is certainly good. But my experience also tells me that you get what you pay for so I thought I'd ask around a bit before I jump.

Also curious about the Weaver 2X28 handgun scope since I'm already planning my next barrel purchase (a 30-30 14"). Any advise is much appreciated.

i have a b-square base on a 10" Armour Alloy .44, and used 3 Millet rings on it to hold a 2x Leupold...so far it has held up fine with no slipping. I also have some b-square rings on a 14" .223, but using a weaver base, no problems there either.

As for the Weaver 2x28, i have one on a 8" smith .357 mag, & another on a 9" .32 H&R mag contender...no complaints there. In fact, the Weaver & the Bauch & Lomb are my favorite 2 2X scopes, i prefer the 28mm objective over the smaller 20/22mm lenses used by most companies.

Thanks fyrepowrx, I appreciate your comments. I think I'll pick up the rings and bases and give them a try. Good to hear the Weaver pistol scopes are as dependable as their rifle scopes. I've got their 4.75 Grand Slam on a 243 BLR and really like it. Their 2.5X7 Rimfire model graces a 22 Mag of mine and does a great job there as well. Good vakue glass in my book.
