Whew! What a weekend. (Long)
« on: August 08, 2005, 02:19:10 PM »
It all started after Thursday after work. I stopped by a pawn shop on the way home from work to try and sell an old motorcycle helmet.  This shop sells guns and accessories as well.  I saw some interesting guns, but nothing I had to have at that moment.  I did spy a showcase containing some used scopes.  I located a old American made Weaver K4 that looked real good.  I set up on a makeshift rest and was able to get it to adjust for windage and elevation pretty well.  I was offered $20 for the helmet and was about to take it but I suggested swapping even-up for the scope.  The owner agreed.  I figure even if I have to send the scope back for a repair , I'm still ahead.

Later, I visited another pawn/gun shop closer to home.  I see an H&R Topper Deluxe slug gun with the pewter finish and a NEF SB1 slug gun which MSP Ret identified as a "Speed Feed" (refer to the post on the NEF Shotgun Forum).  After being educated on both guns courtesy of Marcus and MSP Ret, I return on Saturday an pick up both for $150.

Now Friday arrives and I make my annual weekly visit to my favorite local gun shop.  "and what do my wondering eyes see, but..." a new Ultra Varmint .22 mag sitting on the shelf.  I begin fondling and caressing it.   Anyway the shop owner is asking $185.  I explain how that "may" be a bit high and that I'm a dedicated customer. He gives in, a bit, and I get it OTD for $165.  Twenty dollars more that Wal Mart, but Sport South hasn't had any for a while.

While at the store, he shows me a couple of used scopes he had in the back room.  I walk out with a Japanese Tasco 4X for $20.00.  He says if it does work, you can bring it back.  Its already on my Sportster .22LR.

When it rains, It pours.

Hummm....not a bad weekend at all. Ya walked out with some decent deals there. Nice well made Weaver and Jap-Tasco scope. No to mention the Handi's.
Not bad at all. In a way it's nice that some people don't appreciate these rifles like we do=better deals for us 8) .

Thanks for the great comments, everyone.

Hearing such encouraging words inspires me to look for more "orphans".

As far as pictures, that may be a while.  You see, I'm photographically challenged.  I am currently seeking the advice of my children regarding the purchase of a digital camera.

But, do you know how many Handi's or Pardners I could buy for the price of a decent digital camera?

Oh.  Wait a minute.  I do have it bad, don't I?
