Author Topic: Back from shooting my 50 Cal Encore (Read 772 times)

I went out to the range today and shot my 50 Cal Encore. I am shooting DC 195 gr. sabots from precision rifle and 90 gr. loose triple7 and 25 ACP primers with CCI 400 small rifle primers. I had several 4 shot groups I covered with a half dollar at 100 yards. I have the gun sighted in for 1 1/2 inchs high at 100 yards. I also shot 2, 50 gr. triple7 pellets and my impact was the same as the 90 gr. of loose triple7. Now I can't wait tell Muzzleloading season.

Also no crud ring... :-D

Redhawk I took my encore out and shot it 2 times this evening at 159 lazer ranged yards. The 2 shots struck 1'1/2 center to center from each other and it is pretty much dead on the bullseye at that distance.

I shot it last week at 50 yards and 100 yards. Im 2' high at 50 yards and 3"high at 100 yards.

Im shooting 3 pyro pellets with the 250 grain shockwave.

I have been shooting the encore most of the summer trying different powders and loads and settled on this load for this hunting season.

When it cools down some Im going to start shooting the 200 grain shockwave with the 3 pyro pellets in my omega and see how it does.

I got the vari flame kit from up in canada but havent poured any loose 777 since I started shooting the pellets.

iisabigone, now that is some nice shooting.

I like the triple7 pellets, but I found that I get a lot more shots from a pound of powder than a box of pellets for less cash, and the accuracy is still there. When I hunt, I load the gun with the loose powder and use the pellets as a quick reload. Seeings how the point of impact is the same and it beats trying to load loose powder.

Redhawk Im pretty pleased with the accuracy from my encore and omega with the 3 pellets and shockwaves.

The 777 loose and pellet combo sounds like a good combination for you since the POI stays the same.

The cost of the pellets is the only drawback to them for me. However, Im still shooting 777 ffg in a couple of my other rifles, knights and whites. The cooler ignition with the musket caps and #11 with them Im sure is the main reason.

Im going to experiment some more with the 777 and the vari flame and the T/C rifles after this deer season goes out.

I took my encore out yesterday. I shoot 90 grains of loose ffg triple 7 a 250 grain shockwave with a harvester sabot. I had it sighted dead on at 50 yards. At 100 it was about an inch high and had a 3 shot group touching. I echo your sentiments of can not wait until Muzzleloading season on October I also use the 25 acp and I use cci small pistol primers because they were what I had here when I primed. It shoots awesome.

I just love my set up. I have never had a muzzleloader that shot this good. Cecal did us good.

I'm glad things are working well for you. I too, seem to have a shooter. About three weeks ago, I shot two 3 shot groups with the Encore.
This time I used the 300gr. SST in front of 100gr. BM3. I shot six times straight without cleaning at 100 yds. The first three measured 1 1/4" and the second three were 1 1/8". These were nice triangular shaped groups. I am very pleased with the rifle, especially since these were only shots 11-16 to go down the bore. Cleaning is a breeze with the BM3. Just don't forget to soak the 25 Acp cases after you shoot them. I forgot and a couple of weeks later they were severely corroded.
Next time out will be with 777 and the SST's. The SST's seemed to shoot a little tighter than Banes MZ. Curious to see how 777 will do behind the SST. I will see how the crud ring issue goes. I shot three rounds at my first session without a crud ring, maybe I can get more rounds. 777 has never been a bad experience for me in my Remington.
My Encore seems to be a keeper :-D

Stan M., I did a six shot string with not problem. I had another shooter there asking me what my set up was, and he said he was going to order the 25 ACP breech plug. I did not have to clean the barrel, I just did it for my next group. He could not believe that I load the gun 6 times without having to force the sabot in the barrel. And I did not get a crud ring at all.

I look forward to trying the 777 some more in my Encore. I have shot three rounds before without a problem and I believe I can shoot more before loading becomes a problem. With the Barnes bullets, BM3 shot a little tighter gruop but all loads are VERY exceptable for hunting. I don't think I'm going to be able to justify the price of the BM3 though. Just wish I could get out more to test the loads. I stay so busy nowadays. But come Nov., the Encore will be ready just like it sits but the fun is in the tweaking.
