Anyone have a MTM sight-in-clean gun rest?
« on: February 24, 2005, 02:07:07 AM »
I'm looking at buying one of these as they only cost $30.  Looking for something that can be used for sighting in the rifle plus holding it while I do the cleaning chores.  Just wondered if you own one and what you like or don't like about it.  Anything has to be better the laying the rifle over my shooting box with an old army blanket thrown over the top of the box.
Don't give up, Moses was once a basket case.

That sounds like a good idea. I don't have one,as I use sandbags & then just turn my M-1 over & leave it on the bags for cleaning. Course,in position shooting,I have to get the bags out if I want them to help in cleaning the rifle.

I bought one called Bench Buddy by Hughes.  It is simular to the MTM but looked like it was a little more versatile.  Cost me $35. Haven't shot over it yet but did clean my rifle while using it today.

I have one of those and it's nice to clean the gun in at the range. I wouldn't try to sight a gun in with it, though. If you're primarily getting something for sighting in with, get a cheap little front rest you can throw a sandbag (homemade bag made out of denim works fine even if it's  not pretty) and a rear bag (or a couple bigger homemade ones made from denim).
