Peep Sight for T/C Hawken
« on: August 12, 2005, 03:36:19 PM »
I have aquired a T/C Hawken rifle. While I own an in-line, I'm brand new to the traditional game. I am thinking of adding a peep sight of some sort to this gun. This gun will be used as a hunting weapon. What sight would y'all recommend. Any recommendations regarding best aperture sizes and suggestions as whether the front sight needs to be replaced is appreciated.

If you mean deer hunting, in my experience the best chances to see good bucks is in the few minutes of poor light just before dawn and dusk.

Peep sights are nortorious for their poor ability to see through in those low light conditions.

An alternative is to remove the aperature disk, essentially turning the peep sight into a so called ghost ring...and for me, doing that I'd just as soon use the regular open sights.

My two cents...

The tang mounted peep sight that TC makes is probably as good a choice as any.

I really like the "Merit Hunter Disc' it is adjustable from .022-.156 diameter and fit most tang sights.

T/C makes one that you can install by just drilling and taping one hole in the tang.  You can unscrew the aperature and just look through the hole for hunting.

miked:  i have a couple of t/c's.  both have the t/c peep sights on them.  the other thing that i do is install one of the fiber optic front sights (i use williams fire-site).  when hunting, as previously stated, just unscrew the aperture put is somewhere safe.  the large "ghost ring" will let plenty of light through.  i've tested this and you can see to shoot at legal shooting time (30 min before sun-up here in oklahoma).  also have the same set-up on a couple of cartridge guns and never felt handicapped.
