Data seems pretty sparse for this particular bullet.
Loading for the 45-70. Not a lot of data that I've seen so far for this bullet?

Anyone have a source for a some data??

ALSO...What pressure level should I be using?

You can load up into the low level 3 ruger #1 loads if your shoulder will take it, but most stay in the level 2 levergun loads and below. I use data for the the 400gr speer which there's a lot of data on. If you haven't got a loading manual yet, better get one...or 2 or 3!!! At least one good manual like the Lyman 48th...plus a Loadbook for the 45-70 which has all published powder and bullet mfr's data combined into one book for $7-$8.

Thanks Tim,

I got the Loadbook from Midway. Got to looking through it and didn't really see the 405 Core Loct. I was thinking the the Marlin Loads were OK, just wanted to hear it from someone else.

As usual, begin with start loads and work up, the 45-70 doesn't show pressure signs like a bottleneck high pressure round, the signs are more subtle. In a Handi, the first sign is hard to press the barrel release to get the barrel open. The next is usually stuck brass with a bottleneck case, but the straight case 45-70 may not do that, then you're measuring case dimensions before and after full length resizing checking for too much case growth. Of course these tips are just if you want to push the high level 2 and into level 3 loads, which aren't for the recoil sensitive. :eek:

I used data from the Speer manual and riccardelli's site. Started low and am working my way up. Ended up using AA2015 for my first loads. So far they are plenty accurate. Haven't run them across the chrono yet but I am guessing around 1900 fps. I am at mid-level 2 loads.
