Author Topic: Gamo Shadow 1000 or Daisy Powerline 1000S? (Read 1230 times)

I'm looking for a new .177 caliber air rifle and I can't decide if I should get a Gamo Shadow 1000 for 124.37 or the Daisy Powerline 1000S combo with scope for 94.36. I like the price of the daisy but is the Gamo a much better air rifle? I'm looking for a .177 with at least 850 fps and is less than $200. If anyone has suggestions on which of these two or maybe a different model that will fit my needs please let me know.

The Daisy is only so so at best and Gamo is JUNK no matter what the model. You would be much better served with something like the Crosman Quest 1000X. American made. Go to Pyramyd Air at http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=552 to see the Quest for $112.95 but that is without scope. At least Crosman will stand behind their product where Gamo WON'T(I have been around the horn with Gamo over their warrantee). Even Tech Force from Compasseco, Inc. would be better than your choices. Certain Tech Force rifles are very good despite what some may try to tell you. Shop around and you can do better than either the Daisy or Gamo. Lawdog

The Crosman Quest is made in China. When it was sold here under the Chinese makers name it was the B19. Crosman now has exclusive rights to market that model in the US. The Legacy 1000 is supposedly made in the US, but it looks very much like a Gamo, and is built like one too, right down to the crummy trigger. Its made a very poor showing so far. The Quest on the other hand has proved to be both popular and somewhat reliable, and has a following with the Chinese airgun crowd.
The RWS94 might be one to look at. It fits what your looking for, its not expensive, and its proven itself to be a decent midpriced gun. Steer clear of the Daisy and the Gamo, they are low end low quality guns.

RWS 94 is the only one I would consider in that price and power range, it's a quality, accurate and powerful airgun with a good trigger.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to read the look at the models suggested and the reviews. Maybe I can find a model I like. Even though I had to pump it eight times I was happy with my Benjamin Silver Streak but I refuse to buy one now that Crossman has changed the design. I really like my RWS 54 in .22 caliber so I might get the 94 in .177

You do know that the 54 and the 94 are totally different guns, made by 2 different manufacturers right? The 54 is made by Dianawerk in Germany, the 94 is actually the Cometa Fenix 400 made in Spain. The 54 is a recoilless sidelever spring rifle, the 94 is a break-barrel spring rifle. You may discover that while the 94 is a good gun for the price, its not in the same league as the 54.

I didn't know they were made by different manufacturers, I thought they were both RWS. Does RWS just import their models from different manufacturers? I don't expect the craftsmanship or power of the model 54 but I want something that's fairly accurate, with the power of my old Benjamin at 10 pumps, and isn't made with cheap plastic parts that will break after a year or so. Is this a reasonable expectation for under $200 or will I have to pay more? Thanks again for all the advice. :-)

RWS is an importer, not a manufacturer. Its part of Dynamit-Noble, a worldwide disributor of shooting supplies. Its pretty much the sole importer of Dianawerk products, as well as airguns made by several other companies. The Spanish made RWS 94 is well made, and it doesn't have a lot of plastic.
