If your airgun sounds like a .22, its dieseling (i.e., excessive chamber oil is detonating). Continued dieseling will damage the gun. This is not acceptable. Take it back.
You can't use a regular scope on a "springer." Buy a scope specifically designated as an airgun scope. Bushnell has some reasonably priced models. Also, you must use rings that have a "scope stop" pin or use a seperate one.
I'm not familiar with whose airgun Remington has put their label on. They certainly don't make it. They've definitely headed down a slippery slope in recent years (e.g., new Russian made "Spartan" firearms, Vietnamese made clothing, etc.).
