I was wondering about slings on 7600's It seems to me if you use one connected to the bbl. for shooting it will pull your shot's off. My son doesn't use one. What do you do ?
Also read a post about free floating a model 7400 forend, how is this done ? Another fellow mentioned glass bedding a model 7400 foreend, how ? Another guy mentioned replacing or changing the pressure on a 7400's foreend wil improve accuracy ?
I guess I'm asking how to accurize a 7400. I have a BAR but it just feels like a 2x4 to me as compared to the 7400.
My son recently bought a 7400 and it shoots great, we can shoot pop bottles with it at 200 yrds with factory ammo. Never tinkered with it.
I would like a Winchester 100 but have heard too many negatives about them. So, I just might take a chance on a 7400.
We hunt mixed farmland country. Might be a running shot at a spooked buckor one in thick brush or could be deer feeding in a field at 300 yds in the late evening.
I know the pump is a good rifle, I've shot pump shotguns all my life but just can't seem to get used to a pump rifle.

I have a barrel band sling mount on my 7600. I don't use a sling to shoot with so it's not a problem.

I use a barrel band on my 7600 and a Brownells sling. I don't shoot with it most of the time (it's always on the gun, I just don't always use it as a brace/support). However, last year we were shooting at some small grapefruit-sized pumpkins at the 200 yard range off-hand and I used the sling to steady myself and was able to connect more often than not.  I think the potential effect in pretty minor if you are talking shooting game...

I have used my pump .280 carbine on dozens of deer, a bear and a couple of caribou. I think it performs quite well.

OK, I've read the semi-auto threads. Why do you use one ?

A friend called about an hour ago, said he injured his neck and can't shoot a hard recoiling rifle, I know two more people with bone problems, they break if they shoot a hard kicking rifle. Another only has one arm but can balance a rifle on a rest for a shot. Some others are afraid of hard kicking rifles, thus shoot badly. I could go on but many people have to shoot a semi for various reasons.
I was wondering why you guys shoot them even though thet are less than reliable and not too accurate, I"m talking deer hunting here.
I use a Bar and have been most happy with it, except it weighs a ton and handles like a 2x4 but I was thing of reasons why I use it
  1. it has soft recoil, I shoot better
  2.Sometimes a deer will move,you shoot a tree ,
You have that second chance if needed

3.You can keep your sight picture on game better
  4. many times I've seen a deer stop after a miss before bolting, the noise of working any other action will spook the game, with the semi- you are ready to go.
  5. Although not extremely accurate, most are good enough for 250-75
      yrd shooting.
So with all their problems, why do you use one ?
   Appreciate your imput.

I too hunt with a 7600 carbine that was not manufactured with sling swivel studs. I don't sling my rifle while hunting, preferring to carry it at the ready should a shot at game suddenly present itself.
It's after the animal is down that a lack of a sling presents a problem. Anyone who's been there knows how difficult it is to try and drag a deer out while carrying your rifle in your hand(s). Since I didn't want to drill my rifle to install the swivel studs, I found another solution. The Outdoor Connection Inc. manufactures a slip on sling that works quite well as both a carrying strap & shooting sling. It is called "The Brown Bag Sling", nothing fancy here just loops over the barrel and straps around the butt of the rifle. The best part is that I carry it in my fannypack until needed and it takes up very little room.

I put a sling band on my old 760 so I can keep it on my shoulder while scanning with my binocs.    I don't plan on shooting moving deer, so I carry mine at the ready.
Doesn't seem to affect accuracy, but the gun was never a one-holer anyway.   Just a game getter!

Is the 'brown bag sling' made of nylon webbing or leather?

The "brown bag sling" is made entirely of nylon webbing. If you wish to order one, you can contact The Outdoor Connection Inc. customer service dept. @ (254) 772-5575 x19 and place your order over the phone.
