Hornaday 130 gr SSP Bullets
« on: October 15, 2005, 03:33:40 AM »
I was wondering if anyone could give me a starting and max load for this bullet for use in 30-30 using H4895.  I can find loads for other powders but not for the one I have.  These are for use in a single shot rifle.  Thanks.

snicker,
before someone comes along and places a one-liner telling you to search a site for information allow me:
35 to 37 grains is the recommended loading from my Hodgdon #25.
There are newer manuals so be sure to check the newest manual or the Hodgdon site - which is always a good place to look for loads with their powders. http://www.hodgdon.com

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

Thanks PaulS.  I have searched this site and some others.  While I could find mention of this bullet I could not find any mention of how much H4895 to use.  Hogdons site mentions this bullet but with different powders and I was trying to avoid buying additional just for this one bullet.  I even called Hornaday and the only thing they had was a load of 26.5 to 29 grains for a 10" Contender.  I am new to this reloading stuff but figured I could probably use around 30 grains and be safe but really wasn't too sure.  Thanks again.
