Range Report 25-06
« on: August 20, 2005, 11:14:57 AM »
:D   After my struggles with my Ultra Hunter things have finally turned the corner. I was struggling today at first. shooting off a bi-pod and the frustration was rising. I took it off rested it on the sand bags got shooting straight and then shot 3 3 shot groups. First 3 3/4", next group3/4" and the best for last 3 in the same hole at 100 yards 3/8 of an inch. This using Federal Power Shok 117gr BTSP. I then hit the 500 yd steel target 4 of 5. Moved to the 225 yd small steel targets and went 6 for 6. I think a speed goat will have a rough time in September. I do know one thing for sure these little "cheap" single shot will flat drive tacks. I did the same thing with my fluted 223.

Excellent.
I like to see these things clear up, and people get the enjoyment out of their rifle.

Just make sure the first shot from a clean, cold, barrel hits where you want it to, BEFORE you hunt with it.

My 223 Ultra will put the first shot from a clean barrel about 3" high.  Sooooo, I just run a brush through it with no solvent on it unless it is going to be put away for a long while.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Handi,
I noticed right away this rifle like two shots through it before it's on target. I pop a couple of caps before my goat hunt and Mr. Speedy will be hang'n in the frezzer before noon.
                                               Thanks,

Sounds Like you already gone through what Im dealing with right now. How did you finaly get the rifle to shoot so well? ( And congrats on that !!!
Darn fine shootin!) Thats exactly the kind of performance I am looking for out of my 25-06.  I ve become so frustrated, Im sending it back to the factory, to let them have a go.
I practice gun control, I hit what im shootin at!
