Which Glock for Target Shooting?
« on: August 10, 2005, 04:52:07 PM »
I do a lot of range work with many calibers and would like to ask you experts what 9mm Glock is the best for continuous target practice?

Recoil is of no concern, but having a good trigger is.

How does the 17L compare to the 34 and which is best?
45 ACP 230-gr. Double Tap Gold Dot = 1,010 fps / 15.3" & .95"    :D

Aim for the Triangle Area between armpits & throat.

Any of them G26, G19, G17, G17L, G34

You would have to change out the G17L trigger, with the same trigger as a G34 to make them an equal.  All things compared between the two, I would get the G34.

Well, if what other shooters are using is any indication, some of the best Glock gunmen I know use the G-34 for, both, competition and carry.  (Stay away from the compensated model!)    ;)

Besides the trigger, there's the extended mag release and slide release which may not be as important to slow fire Target Shooting.

I'm in the same boat as you, shopping for a 9mm Glock, and after holding and shooting several, I'd have to agree with the previous post on this thread - you'll be happy with most any for target shooting. You might try the 19 out if you can; "feels" different, and is a good all-around size for just about any purpose for which a 9mm can be used.

My most accurate Glock has actually been my Glock 20 with .40s&w conversion barrel, just edging out my 17L.
My 17L has been shooting very well from a rest, shooting 2" with Winchester 147 fmj-fp (25 yards).
I swapped out the extended mag release for a standard one, and added a NY-1 trigger return spring (I don't like light trigger pulls).

:cb2: My 21 has made several custom 1911 owners grumble at the range. Accurate right out of the box. Don't see why anyone would pay $600 to $800 for a gun and then spend another $300 to $400 on it to make it shoot good?!?
