Barrel sling band (Is that what it's called?)
« on: August 23, 2005, 11:18:05 AM »
Seriously considering putting one of those bands on the 45-70 barrel, for a couple reasons, one is I like how they look, two is I don't like the short distance between mount points on the wood forends.

Anyone ever done this?  How'd I go about it?

Haven't done it, but this might work....I just measured an older 45-70 barrel, it measures right at .900" at the front of the forend.

My .223 came with one of those when I bought it used.  The forearm was never drilled for a swivel so I assume thats how it was shipped from the factory.  Its a ND serial so that puts it about 1989 manufacture.

Quick is right. I have the band he linked to and I bought it for a 12 ga and thought I'd try it on the 45-70 for kicks and it worked fine. It is actually being used on a 223 ultra barrel right now and works fine on that as well.

Those would definately be easier to put on but I was thinking of the full circle ones that Brownells sells, about $0 or so.  I think they are soldered on but not sure.

I like the look for the 45-70.  Looks like an African game gun

This was what I had in mind from Brownells.

They run from $35 to 50.

Looks like the Brownells offering has been "Dropped by Factory" in the larger sizes.  They show a similar barrel band by Talley but only up to .890 ID.

I'll have to wait till I get my 45-70 to see what size it takes.
