Every since I got rid of my Weatherby Mark V (30-06) I have kicked myself for getting rid of the rifle and for not having an 06 anymore. Well I have a chance to possibly get it back and since it looks like Weatherby only offers the Mark V (in 06) in the Vanguard now it would be nice to get it back.
Anyway, one of the reasons I traded this rifle was that the Factory finish seemed to scratch very easy. The stock is the typical Claro Walnut but the finish seemed to scratch at will. I am very careful with my rifles but this thing seemed impossible to protect.
So, I have read many of the posts here on refinishing a rifle, do you Weatherby fans out there have any hints? I am going to go with an oil finish like Tru-oil and would like to really bring out the grain in the wood as well.
