Fix for Taurus revolver hammer chopping away at the frame???
« on: August 23, 2005, 02:43:44 AM »
Note: I posted this on the GB Taurus forum over a month ago and received no response aside from a warning not to void my warranty. -- Ed

My 431's hammer is slowly chopping away at the right side of the frame at the intersection of the frame and side plate as the hammer falls. It seems that the hammer travel is not centered in the slot or perhaps there is too much slop between the pin and pivot hole in the hammer causing it to drop at a slight angle. I have seen other posts in this forum from individuals observing the same thing on their Taurus revolvers so it would seem to be a chronic and/or design issue. Has anyone either fixed this themselves or had their local 'smith take care of it? If so what was the fix?

I know it could go back to Taurus and that is one option but the shipping costs alone are an hour of the local 'smiths time...

The problem is why is the hammer hitting the frame.  It could be an oversized hole, a soft hammer, an improperly drilled (formed) hole in the hammer.  ETC..  A good smith could diagnose and fix the problem most  likely but it should be handled by Taurus.  I've not noticed this as a 'normal' problem with Taurus..  Why not give their customer service folks a call and see if they'll handle it under their warrantee.  It should be without cost to you..
