which powder thrower

i am tiring of loading pistol ammo with a scale and dipper. thinking of buying a thrower. i usually load 50-200 rounds at a time and it gets tedious. my primary pistol powder is unique. which thrower do you guys use and why? thanks in advance for your input

I use a Redding bench rest powder measure.  The reason is it appeared to be a good one and I got it cheap off of e-Bay.  It seems to be accurate but to tell the truth I mostly load for rifles.  Not being in a hurry, I set the measure a bit short of a full load, my normal mode of operation, and trickle in the rest.  This measure is limited on the top end for size of loads, but I just halve the load and throw a double dose for the big stuff.

I have used the Lee powder measure that screws on top of the case mouth belling die and it drops a dose of powder everytime you bell a case mouth.  It uses discs with different size holes for different loads. I'm not much of a pistol shot so I couldn't tell you if this thing creates accurate pistol ammo or not but it functions  ok despite being a bit on the plasticy side.

I have a Redding Bench Rest powder measure with the universal and the pistol chamber. It works great for me.

For high volume loading there is only one measure to consider, the JDS Quick Measure. Charge 100 cases in less than 4 minutes. With the small charge funnel throw charges from 3 grains to 85 grains and with the optional large tubes it is possible to get to 132 grains. All of this with .1 grain accuracy (better with small grain stuff) www.quick-measure.com

RCBS uniflow. I've used mine for over 20 years and it does great with ball and flake powders.

Guys, he's loading PISTOL. Those measures that work so great for rifle charges may not work worth a whoop with little charges of Unique. I can tell your first hand that the RCBS Uniflow won't. Up above five grains it does fine. Under three grains, you might as well eyeball it.

I'm using the Lee Autodisk Pro. The adjustable charge bar does fine for most stuff, but I still have to go to the MicroDisk kit at times. The RCBS Li'l Dandy has a fine reputation, but the selection of rotors is both limited and expensive. I've heard good things about the Dillon measure, but have never used one.

Thanks for the input guys keep it coming. I quess i should have noted a few things
1) that i use a single stage press.
2) load for .32acp, .357,.38, .and 45acp
3) I have a lee perfect powder measure but it leaks all the pistol               powders i use out the side of the rotor.

smalstuf thanks for the link looks like a great thrower but info on the web site shows that it will  only throw charges down to 8 grains most of my charges or less than that.

Leftoverdj, that's why I mentioned I have both chambers for my powder measure. The Redding bench rest powder measure can be ordered with the pistol chamber only.

With the smal charge funnel and the A tube this measure will go down to 3 grains. They also make an AA tube and Funnel that will go down to 1.7 grains of bullseye.

For years I used a dipper and scale.  About three years ago I bought a RBCS Uniflow at a gun show for $50.  Didn't know at the time it had a large cyliner installed, meant for heavy rifle charges.  I called RBCS to ask them about it.  They said you have the wrong cylinder for oading pistol bullets.  I ask how much to buy the small cylinder and they told me no charge, give us your address. (This is a $25 part).  I installed the small cylinder and now load Unique, 2400, and Bullseye for 9 mm, .357, and .44 mag.  It will consistantly measure within 0.1 grains and so far hasn't leaked.  Needles to say with RCBS customer service like this all of my reloading equipment is green.
