beretta A300

I was at a guys house the other day and he asked me if I was interested in purchasing a shotgun he had.  It's a semi-auto Beretta 12 guage 28" barrel for    2 3/4 shells.  He said he purchased it new about 18 years ago and only used it a couple of times (he's not a hunter).  It's a very clean gun but I know nothing about it.  I could't find a model number on it but the serial number started with A300 so I figured that's the model number.  From what I read in the blue book if it has a 28 inch barrel it's probably a modified choke.  It's not set up for removable chokes.  He said he paid about $800.00 Canadian for it and is asking $300.00.  Is it worth it or should I just buy a cheap Mossberg pump with interchangeable chokes?  Could it should steel shot? Could I have it modified to take interchangeable chokes?  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Its a solid well made gun. I have an aquaintance in Ottawa who has used one for years & really likes it.

This gun is the forerunner to the AL390 & 391 series.

If its in mint condition, its a steal at $300.00 & yes it can be fitted with "Colonial" screw in chokes.
