Vertical Stringing

I have a new 308 barrel that strings them vertical every group, anywhere form 3 to 4 inches.  I have put washers under the barrel and has helped but am still stringing. Let me know what you think.

I FIND THAT IF I VARY THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I APPLY WITH MY RIGHT (TRIGGER )HAND TO THE WRIST OF THE BUT STOCK, WHILE SHOOTING FROM THE BENCH, THAT I GET BAD VERTICLE STRINGING. AS RIGID AS THE CONTENDER CARBINE IS, IT MIGHT GET SOME FLEX. MOST GUYS TEND TO LEAN IN ON THE WRIST, TO GET THE CROSS HAIRS UP TO THE TARGET. THIS WAS HOW I WAS TAUGHT TO SHOOT OFF SAND BAGS, FINE FOR A FULL STOCKED RIFLE, BUT BAD NEWS FOR A CONTENDER (IN MY EXPERIENCE).
I FOUND THAT IF I SHOOT THE GUN FREE RECOIL, LIKE THE BENCH REST GUYS DO, THE VERT. GOES AWAY! I KNOW THIS SOUNDS AWKWARD! BUT IT WORKS.
WHEN SHOOTING OFF HAND, IT'S NOT A PROBLEM. AS, THE RIFLE HANGS THE SAME WAY, FOR EVERY SHOT.
 GOOD LUCK!

This is usually caused by HEAT-if it's a light barrel, they get hot real quick

Thanks for the tips guys. I went back to the bench this evening and tried alining the crosshairs without putting down pressure on the stock and bingo .8 in averaged 3 shot groups. Also the last group I shot I added 2 more to the string and the forth and fifth started up verticle. 3 shots is fine with me for a deer rifle. It is the light barrel. Anyway thanks guys, your help is greatly appreciated.
