Bought my hunting license this morning.
« on: August 15, 2005, 05:14:31 AM »
Went to Walmart this morning for an oil change. Seeing I was there I figured I'd get my hunting license. Doe permits were a real crapshoot. Three of us were in line. First guy got his 1st choice rejected on the 2nd. Second guy was rejected on his 1st but got his 2nd choice. I must be the fortunate one I was lucky enough to get both.  :-)

Good Luck

I stopped by Johnson's after work and got mine ( had to go there to send my Kimber back  :x  @#%^$).
Got my first choice, 9P :-D . Rejected for my second, 9A. Doesn't bother me really, I was glad to see them cut the permits back some.

Here in NY we pay for everything. There are several different licenses. We also have to apply a for DMP (doe permit) in whatever deer management unit you choose. The past few years the DEC has been passing them out like candy on Halloween. This year the number of doe permits in most areas has been drastically reduced. When we go in and buy our license, we have to apply for the doe permit by deer management unit. Its done buy a lottery type deal. the clerk enters your choices in the computer, then it prints out what your getting  1-2 or none and that's what you live with for that season.

Here's the breakdown of our licensing structure in NY. Some of the dates listed are old but hey it's NY.

I feel for you guys. I hunted out my back door mostly in the Hudson valley
for 40 years. Sure got confusing. I left the day Hillary was elected. I love what rural NY once was. I left primarily to afford to save more for my kid's college, but secondarily I just wanted to go back to hunting without 9 zillion regs. What with suspect management of the deer herd, rifle on / off
but still on within 45 miles of Manhattan, late notification of season changes, (like the only people who plan vacation are elected officials),
early muzzleloader vs 85% letoff bows...come now....!
Anyway, I won't be back to Ny to hunt this year...need a break. I'm sure I'll be back at some point for nostalgia. For now I'll introduce my 9 year old daughter to deer on the NC Blue Ridge, which is very similar to the old Valley.... There is a thread here on Graybeard, asking "pound for pound toughest" My vote goes to the NY hunter... God bless you guys,
can't believe I took it so long....

Aww, come on, NY ain't so bad.  As long as you like high taxes, big socialist government, parolees running amuck, and welfare frauds sapping the system, not to mention being surrounded by antigun and anti hunters all over the burbs...I met a person the other night who said she was from Chicago, and she observed that Syracuse has gotten worse than "Chi-town" as far as the quality of life in the city.

Back to the topic...I got two doe tags for 6R and 8F, two different places that I hunt.  Good Luck everyone!
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

I bought mine online a couple of days ago. First time, but It was relatively painless. I was able to view my profile in DECALS and even update my landowner status. I got both of my permit pics, (6G with landowner pref. and 8n. I think I will do this from now on.

That's the site that I went to earlier this afternoon to purchase my license...I bought the Super Sportsman.  I applied for two DMP's but was only granted one...I was turned down for 9P but I was granted one in 9A.

WNY...Do they mail you your actual tag? I've been considering the on-line option.

Yup...They mail the tags to you...I have been purchasing my tags over the phone for the last two seasons and they were mailed to me both times.  This year I tried out the brand new internet purchase option.  It's easier than going to a sporting goods store or clerks office to purchase them plus I used my credit card for some extra cash back bonus.  :D

Gotta stop by and get mine...I'll apply first for 9M, since that's where I live..and own hunting land.

Ironglow...Do you own enough land to get the landowner preference points?

No Whitetailer;
Although it is some of the most prime deer area around, I have only about 13 acres...but permission from neighbors to hundreds of adjacent acres, and  thousands of acres through local acquaintances.

Curiously, I renewed my sportsman license this morning and I STRUCK OUT as far as extra deer permits...so I get buck only.

Hey ! that's the way the cookie crumbles !
