Just...could not....help it...
« on: August 26, 2005, 04:27:08 PM »
Yesterday, I was thinking that I had several thumper handis, 38-55, 45-70, 44mag, and a few varmint calibers, 22 jet, hornet, 17HMR, and that it'd be nice to have one in a 270, or '06, or maybe a 25-06.

Just happened that I stopped at the local Mercantile/gunsmith's, sorta to see what-all might be hangin' on the wall in the way of handirifles.

There she was---cinnamon lam wood, looong barrel--an ultra in 25-06.  Used, but like new. Has a pair of Burris rings mounted on the rail.  The lockup needs work, and Marcus, the 'smith, agreed to stone the underlug to good engagement tomorrow night.

$250 and I pick her up Sunday.

Anybody got any loads to recommend?  Factory ammo?

Wonder if she'll like 120 grain bullets.

Congrats!!!!  :D The Federal 115gr Nosler partition shoots less than 1" groups out of my 25-06 Ultra, with the 1st 2 rounds touching, and the Hornady 117gr BTSP shoot almost as good......My other .25-06 Ultra had a sex change and is now a .338-06!!! It shoots bullets about twice that weight just as well!!!! .....hint, hint!!!!

Pervert the lady of my dreams with a sex change???

Are you MAD?

Besides I got enuff handi-thumpers already, plus a 338 win mag from the dark side.  I toyed with the idea of having a 270 barrel fitted to one of my spare frames, since I cut my teeth on this caliber, but an ultra in 25-06 was what was on my mind as I drifted off to sleep last night.

Maybe I'll name her "Dreamboat"...

She can have a place in the rack next to Mr. Six, my totally tricked-out 6mm AI.

(Sigh....)

Gotta get somethin' to feed her right away.  Thanks for the tips!

You're right, I wouldn't have done it if I only had one .25-06!!! Somebody I know did just that....now he's ordered another .25-06....probably gonna make it a 26" barreled .270...I do believe!!!!

Congrats on the new(to you) 25-06 Ultra....

Sure...factory groups...have a look...115grain Silver Ballistic Tips Winchester Supreme...not bad for my first groups....

When I get my new one for the reciever I just sent in today...(my birthday gift )...I'll be trying some of the new Nosler 100 grain Accubonds and some RX22 and  H1000 powder...just to see how good they do...3300fps...and 3260fps...respectfully...if that don't get the job done...nothing will :)

I just pulled my nose outta the Hodgdon manual..nice to see that the 25-06 likes slow powders.

I've got kegs of H450, H414, and WMR.

Need to get some brass, dies and bullets!!
