What's wrong here?
Note the Goex powder can for scale, and the golf-ball caliber handgonne on the right side of the shooting bench.

I don't suppose that was an EMPTY Goex can sitting right there next to a mortar when it fired, huh?!?

It's worse than that!

Here's a picture of the area about 10' behind where I was shooting.

The rag (one of several) and the other can of powder were all in a canvas bag of toys directly behind and in the flight path of the fuses blown clear of the mortar!  A helpfull observer noticed and put out the burning shop rag very quickly!

Let's see - is it a good idea to have a wooden box for powder, matches and fuse?  Perhaps one with a lid that can't be propped open?

Maybe a little less distractions (like taking pictures)???

I noticed the big box of matches directly hehind the mortar after I had already posted.

Of course, I'm in no position to be critical, I've had a few 'lapses in protocol' in my own shooting. Dumb luck has so far kept me from blowing off any necessary appendages.
