Why did you narrow it down to those two?  Or whatcha gonna use it for?

First response would be for the Kimber.  I don't own either, though...

:D I have a Kimber Royal that I have had now a little more than a year and couldn't love it more. It will shoot anything I feed it and always hit where I point it. There is a lot of fine guns that I have not had the pleasure of firing but this is hands down the best of the ones that I have.  I did my CCW class a year ago and when we finished shooting there was four or five guys guys lined up wanting to shoot my gun including one of the instructors. And they all shot well with it and seemed to like it.

I have 5 Kimbers. Ultra, Compact, Pro Carry, 2 Gold Match's. My most accurate is the compact model. It will outshoot the Gold Match's. I also have a Springfield A1A that shoots exceptionally well. I just received a SIG 220 and am anxious to fire it today. I also own & sometime carry a Glock model 30. It also shoots well (better than my other Glocks). I have never fire the Smith 45. I would stic with the Kimbers as they seem to have better resale value just in case you need another 45!  Larry

Are good despite the MIM parts. But they are tight pistols that may not work every time. Colt works every time with sloppy type slides. And the accuracy is a sometime deal. The 45 Auto was and still is a reliable weapon that should work everytime anywhere. When all these later 45 Autos came into the scene "accurized and with flared ejection ports" I think we took the wrong path. The 45 Colt by Colt is the original--designed to work every time despite accuracy consideration. I would rather have a 45 Auto that WORKED everytime anywhere than an unreliable target gun. IMHO.
