Finally got some trigger time!
« on: September 02, 2005, 05:01:00 PM »
I spent the whole summer working in Chicago...what an awful, awful place for a country boy!  I finally got back to the farm with my Omega after not having fired a gun since February.
As it turned out the weather was too hot for much shooting.  My 110gr load of 777 with a 200gr Shockwave is right below the limit of accuracy.  Apparently barrel heating is part of the problem, because in 80 degree weather I had to leave 15 min between shots to keep them from opening up and climbing up the target...thought I was shooting a Savage!
Between the cooling time and our annoying neighbor calling the sheriff out on me when she heard gunshots, I only got about a dozen good shots off.  (The sheriff left with a message from me to the neighbor telling her to bite me.)
There wasn't wind, so I started 4 at 200 and 3 at 300 into one group about 4" wide and dead center...better than I expected with my lack of shooting this year.  The next day I fired a single shot  under "field conditions" (bipod for support; on the ground over grass, no bench) at 333 yards with a stiff crosswind.  My wind doping was decent and it hit 4" upwind(left) and high.
The only thing I want to do to this gun is adjust the trigger...no small job on an Omega.  The .25 ACP conversion has solved the crud ring for me.  I'd like to try BM3, but I'd rather get 100 more round with my current load through the gun than experiment with something new before hunting season arrives.
