Yet another question for Lawdog
« on: August 26, 2005, 02:52:35 PM »
Saw the comments on your new Leapers scope and was wondering about the quality?    I just bought a Leapers 4x32 mini, and am not real thrilled with it.  The optics are a bit murky and the windage/elevation adjustments are pretty rough with a lot of interaction.  (So what do I want for fifty bucks?)   So far it's stood up to perhaps 500 rounds from my Beeman R-9 with no problems...   I am interested in the scope you bought, but wouldn't want to spend that much if the quality was about the same.   :?

Is your scope model #SCP-432AOMDL2?  Even so no matter what you pay for a scope you have the right to expect clear, bright optics or return it and either have them replace it or refund your money.  My Leapers shows quality workmanship and is clear and bright to the edges.  Doesn't change POI when changing power levels like some lower cost variables do(I haven’t had that problem with BSA either).  Did you get it from Dave’s Collectible’s or Pyramyd Air?  Either place should treat you right.  Lawdog

Yes, the scope is as you noted.  It think the "problem" with the optics was my front sight.  Though you couldn't see it through the scope, it was close enough to center of the objective to cause some blurring of the image.  We machined up an aluminum muzzle brake, and that solved the problem!  The POI does not seem to shift at all, but it was pretty tricky to get it dialed in because of interaction between the windage and elevation adjustments.  We are now very happy with the scope and tempted to try the 3-12 side focus mini!  We bought the scope from Pyramid and were very pleased with their service.  Thanks so much for your input Lawdog!

Front sights will do it all the time.  That is one reason i remove the sights from all my air rifles.  Lawdog

Beeman used to make a filler plate to cover the rear-sight screw hole, for after you removed the sight; but it was only for certain models  Is anyone making one that would fit on an RWS 48/52?  Having mounted a scope, I've taken off my front sight and replaced it with Beeman's "muzzle brake" (which, near as I can figure, is just decorative); and, since I've taken off the front, I don't need the rear either.  But that ugly hole bothers me.
