I would show you mine, but Hunt101.com seems to have dumped all my pictures.

Mine too! Fortunately I transferred the pics I wanted to keep to Photobucket when they were getting undependable, before Hunt101's crash. Well over a month ago Hunt101 emailed me stating my gallery would be restored in a week or so....I just checked, it's still empty.

Norse.....nice looking rig, but he wants to see "scout" scopes...A scout mount is mounted well ahead of the traditional position on the barrel using EER or handgun scopes.

Ok, Ok, you forced me to get off my dead carcass, find the camera, take a picture, crop and resize it, open a Photo Bucket account, upload it and then post it here.  Jeeze.. some people's kids... I tell ya.  :-D

Do a search for "drillin-n-tappin" and you will find the details without the original pictures.

The whole deal looks out of whack, I don't see anything exiting nor much benefit. These long eye relief scopes can't have much F.O.V.

Fred, that is what stopped the project. I tried the red dot in the pic and a pistol scope. The F.O.V. in both was very small. I decided to mount it in its original postion.

i think this is what you are wanting to see but this is a 10ga shotgun done up special for blasting turkeys.you need a scope setup for a gun like this with all the recoil the 10ga can dish out with the mag turkey loads.i would just look around for a scope with 4 or 5 inches of eye releaf and that should work out good for you.

by the way how you all like my painted "pallet wood" stock? :)

Varminter.

There is nothing new in optical mathematics. Light refraction can be manipulated, but you trade one benefit for a non benefit. The only thing new in optics is the lens coatings, not really new but much much better as before.

Also good coatings are very expensive. Only the very best scopes have all the lenses coated. The cheap ones only coat the ones you can see. Lens grinding by machine is state of the art, but a hand ground lens by an expert will still beat it. Putting lens elements together by rude machinery is another story.

At present the best machine made lenses are made in Japan, the Germans subcontracted the lenses to the Japanese.

Today junk optics are sold for big profits to ignorant consumers.

FOV does not suffer when using a Scout, red dot or pistol scope (If it is used properly). They are designed to be used with both eyes open so that in effect you have unlimited FOV. Works very well for me.

Wally, I tried that but i couldn't get used to it. I guess it's hard to break the routine that i learned to shoot on.

I know this is not a Handi, but it is one of the scouts I've made up. This started out as a Spanish FR-8 in 7.62 NATO. Scope is a Burris 2.75 scout scope. Handles any NATO ammo and 308 Win just fine.

Drew: I know waht you mean, it took me two summers of shooting scouts off and on to get real comfortable with the idea.

That's a fine looking setup there Wally. I just can't see myself getting use to them any time soon. I love the looks of the setup but i'm not sure i could get use to it.

If you look at the pics i posted that is a cut down weaver base. The thread size on the base screws and the screw that holds the rear sight on sre the same. You could use that as a mounting point. With the 3 holes you can sorta adjust how far out you set it. Then you will just have to have 2 holes tapped. That based will also have to be lapped.
