357 sig ammo
« on: August 30, 2005, 01:27:09 AM »
I've noticed something interesting over the years. Often times I've found a big pile of 357sig ammo sitting on the shelf of small gunshops throughout my area. Granted its probably years old but who cares? I figure years ago someone orderd it and they sold everything else and now its just sitting there. People always say the ammo's hard to get but I always run into a pile of it in the strangest places. One time I was in a fishing shop and the only ammo they had was 25acp and a huge pile of hornady 357sig the were blowing out for 10$ a box. So for those who would like to try that caliber you could probably get by that first year easily shooting up all that ammo in stores in your area.

Hmmmm, that's interesting.  Sometimes you encounter strange situations like that.  I once visited a small gunshop in a small village on the edge of the Vermont/NY border and found, of all things, an enormous supply of 30-30.  Darn shop was sold out of just about everything else except the 30-30s.  When I asked why, the owner said that years ago when they changed his area to shotgun/pistol only a lot of the old timers hung up their 30-30s and he still had a bunch of ammo around.

He also had 7 full boxes of Winchester 30 Luger on his shelves that were marked at $5.99 each.  Now, that was old stuff but it was still nice and shiney.  I bought all 7 boxes and still have 3 left.  It works my 7.65 Luger very well.

I guess this is why a lot of us have a penchant for sniffin' around old gunshops - ain't no tellin' what goodies you'll find.  Mikey.

8) Another good place to find ammo is at estate sales.  I recently went to an estate sale near Snyder, Texas, they had about 30 guns and tons of ammo.  Most people left after the guns were sold but my son and I hung around.  They pulled out twelve boxes of 5mm, very few people bid on it, I finally managed to walk away with all of it for thirty five dollars.  Later at a gun show I seen the same ammo (Remington) for forty-five dollars a box.  I felt like I had found a gold mine.............. :D
