Browning 1886 firing pin
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:08:22 AM »
I have an '86 Browning that does not fire all the time.  The lawyer designed inerta firing pin seems to be not working properly.  Can I make a new firing pin, along the lines or the original Winchester unit?  Yes, I know I will not be able to carry a round in the chamber with the hammer resting on the firing pin safely.  But, why would I ever do such a stupid thing in the first place?  Can anyone point me to instructions or comment on this?

Inertial firing pins are not new tecknowledgy and are effective safety devices. I would spend my time finding the cause of the failures to fire.. I would suspect excessive lubrication or a dirty firing pin tunnel.  Also check to be certain there are no burrs restricting free movement and that the mainspring has not been lightened or is no longer strong enough to actuate the firing pin..  Also check for a broken firing pin...
