Hand loading the .30-30
« on: September 01, 2005, 12:06:46 PM »
:D Ok, here's a question from a guy who knows ZERO about handloading, but may get into it someday.

Can you use pointed bullets for .30-30 cartridges in a handi since it is a single shot?  If so, has anyone done it?  Does it make enough difference to even bother?  How hot can you load a .30-30 (comparible ballistically to what for example)?

I'm sure I'll get lots of answers

Tommy.

You can load any pointed 30 cal bullet in a Handi. Some of the best are the  130 and 150 gr. You don't load any hot loads in a Handi. Most don't like hot loads. Go strictly by the loading books, start low and watch for signs of pressure. The 30-30 is a fine cartridge in a Handi.

The 30-30 is ballistically equal to a 30-30 :-D  :D

I hav e a 30-30 handi and I load 125 gr ballistic tip and 150 gr interlock. My gun likes both with IMR3031.  The big differance for me is ballistics and accuracy.  Get started and have fun.. :D
