Swiss 7.5X55
« on: August 30, 2005, 04:04:39 PM »
Anyone reload for the Swiss 7.5X55?  I tried using the search but I must be doing something wrong, I didn't get any hits.  Somewhere I read, and I can't remember where it was that the K31 likes cast bullets, does anyone know if this is true?

Also I read that you can reload the Berdan primed brass with a little more work.  Is this true?  Thanks

Yes you can reload the berdan primed brass but it takes more work and the primers have not always been available. I believe that Grafs has them now, imported from Russia. You need to buy or make a tool to remove the spent primer and it is not as fast as simply punching out the old one. You also need a die such as RCBS that you can remove the depriming pin from if you are going to F/L resize the brass.

jack - try the Norma website and seen if they have any reloading data for that cartridge.  I recall from shooting mine years ago that the only reloading data available was from Norma.  Used either N203 or N204 powder (I think) with a 180 grain .308 bullet.  I reloaded to Norma specifications which were the original factory loads for that cartridge (not the older round) and they shot very accurately and to point of aim in my older K31 - makes a darn fine hunting round that doesn't give anything up to the 308.  If you can't locate their site or data I will try and find the data I used.  HTH.  Mikey.

Swiss 7.5X55 For my K-31
« Reply #8 on: September 03, 2005, 04:05:50 AM »
I'm using 45 grains of IMR 4064 with an OAL of 2.875" with 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips or Hornady SP interlocks at 150 grains. If your reloading for a K-31 be careful about the cartridge length. The K-31 has a very short throught length as compared to some of the other 7.55X55 rifles. I was using an OAL length called out in some manual and the bullet was jamming into the lands. When unloading the round the bullet stuck to the lands and was pulled out of the case. Powder was dumped all over my chamber and magazine. I got the 2.875" OAL from the Hornady manual. Using a no drill and tap Darrel's scope mount I'm getting three shot .5" froups from my K-31.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

also be aware that there have been at least two variations with slightly
different bore diameters in the straight pull.  i don't remember all the details but it might be worth looking into.
