Geraldo Rivera, AKA Jerry Rivers, is a jerk. Shep came across as concerned not hysterical. His ex father in law, Kurt Vonnegut, the author of Slaughterhouse Five, couldn't say enough bad about him (Rivers). If you want an eyeful Google these names. What a chump.
