Wasn't able to go out opening day, but managed to take off yesterday - Tuesday. Was in my stand just before light and spent ALL morning - nothing, not even a sight. Got down about 10:30 for some lunch, back in by 12:00.
12:00 till 5:45 nothing! Did see a red fox walking back and fourth for an hour. I think the day was just too hot.
Finally at 5:45 a doe and a fawn came in from the field about 50 yards out but skirted out of range and down to the bottom of my uncle's woods. I figured they might pick up my scent down there (that's where I had lunch) and maybe come back towards me. Gave it to 6:40 w/o another sight and it was getting pretty dark anyways.
I guess you can guess the next thing... about 20 yards out of my stand walking down the trail... who do I bump into. Had a stare down with the doe and fawn for about 3 full minutes with my bow in hand at my side. She was only 20 yards out. She totally smelled me, starring, stamping her feet.
Finally, she moved behind I bush and I went to draw... and she bolted.
Oh well, it's early in the season... although I can't say I am gonna spend another whole day in a tree with only one sight at dusk. I will probabily stick to 4:00 pm into the stand till night from here on out.
Good luck, keep the discussion going!
