My first serious match
« on: September 09, 2005, 08:08:29 PM »
Well, I've been dinking around with cowboy action stuff for a while, doing informal shoots with small groups of friends, but in one week I'll be shooting my first full-fledged, SASS affiliated match.  There should be at least 3 or 4 dozen people there to witness my shame, if they're inclined to look my direction.  I'll be bringing a calender to be used in lieu of the standard electric timer while I slowly work through my targets.  If I really screw up, I'm hoping that the clouds of smoke from my 44 Russian extra long loads will mask the details (32 grains of Goex 3f, mav dutchman 200 grain bullet).  There's plenty of one f in my shotgun loads, too, so if there's not much wind, that'll complete the smoke screen.

In case you can't tell, I don't like shooting with strangers watching, but I guess I'll learn!  Besides, they won't be strangers long.  If I stay safe, I'll consider it a success.  If I have fun, it'll be a rousing success.  If fewer than 3 other people are shooting in my class, I may even get a ribbon.

Wish me luck, I'll need it.

Leverfan, you're gonna have a ball! Trust me, those cowboys ain't strangers, they're just friends you haven't met yet... :)

Seriously, I think you will find the cowboy actions shooters to be the absolute friendliest bunch of folks you will ever meet.
