Best thing that ever happened.
Went to Wally World and exchanged it, but the new model has features mine didn't. We are talking about the Simmons Eight Point model.
This model has the gimbal fixed to the scope tube so that it resists recoil better as well as they have done something that allows the eye to see the center of the scope better (You'll have to ask them)
The result is a 1/4" to 3/8" reduction in my group size. The load I'm shooting is the Lee 379-250-RF and 11.2 grains of #107. I've shot the better part of 1000 rounds of htis and I can tell you it was shooting about 1" for 5 shots at 50 yards, not bad, most groups cloverleafed, but 1" center to center was the norm. After 40 rounds, I can say there is a definate difference in the quality of the group, it tightened up.
I don't know all the jargon, I just know that this scope shoots better than the last. What I do notice is that finding the "sweet spot" to look through is much easier than with the previous model (I still have one of those on my 357) I suspect the fixed gimbal returns to zero better than a floating gimbal, and whatever games they are playing with the lenses is working well.
Yeah, it is a cheap scope, but it don't act like one, and it is the only scope I've ever used that I can say actually improved the group. I would say for what it's worth, but it's well worth 50 bucks.
So Paul... Thanks for bustin' my scope
