magnaporting?
« on: September 16, 2005, 08:31:39 AM »
hello all,

I have been thinking of getting a 23" 373JDJ barrel and don't want the noise of a muzzel break,  I have heard that magnaporting cuts the felt recoil with out the increased noise.  is there any truth to that?

My 7-30 waters surely has less recoil.  It is louder and if shooting at a range under a roof, I hear complaints from anyone within 20 feet of me.

Unfortunately, you have to choose on this one.  Recoil or noise.   When out hunting, I never hear the noise.

any brake will increase the noise to your ears. You SHOULD learn to wear ear protection when ever shooting.Few of us do though!

Yes it is.  I was at the range last Sunday with my 14" and was asked several times what I was shooting since it was so loud.
The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is recoil.

My 45-70  15" has the factory brake, haven't fired my 460 S&W yet, may wish I had one on it. My 15" 7mm-08 isn't too bad without one, so I hope the 460 recoil is about the same..........

Hmmmm,
I guess I'm all alone out in deep right field on this one.
I have never had anyone complain about my mag-na-ported barrel or gun being louder than an unported one.
If it is louder, it's not even close to the noise a break will produce.
It also reduces the muzzle flip more than it reduces felt recoil.

I guess that's because your special.   :)

Have to joke a little.  Glad to hear you haven't been griped at.

I sent my Savage Striker (.308) in to Magnaport to have them put a Magnabrake on it. It removes easy and reduces recoil, greatly.

I have never had anyone complain about my mag-na-ported barrel. I shot a 308 15" encore and it helped with recoil alot.
