I've recently purchased a new Sig TS with a 4.5" bbl for $360. I was looking for a Bersa FireStorm when I saw this pistol and the fact that the price seemed reasonable (Isn't it?).
Any way, this is my second Sig TS. The first one was a 6" bbl and had some problems after 2000 rounds. The retainer after the last round got rounded and in some cases, it would slip and would not stay open. This caused the firing pin to make a litle point strike to the chamber rim area. I no longer own that pistol.
Now, since I heard about the problems encountered with the first production Sigs TS and that Sig has fixed the problem since, I went ahead and purchase the same type of pistol but with the shorter bbl.
I have shot at least 500 rounds with this new pistol and I found that it is ammo picky. I tried the following loads with a chrony while plinking with the following results:
1. Federal 550 Bulk pack, 1157 FPS very accurate, no malfunctions
STDev = 26
2. CCI Mini Mag, 1115 FPS, very accurate, no malfunctions.
STDev = 12
3. CCI Velocitors, 1171 FPS, feeding problem occur a few times in more than one try.
STDev = 28
4. Aguila .22 Super Maximum, 1327 FPS, accurate, no malfunctions
STDev = 57
For curiosity, I also tested the same rounds with my Ruger MK2 6-7/8 GC Slabsided and the results were:
1. CCI Mini Mag, 1180 FPS, very accurate, no malfunctions.
STDev = 8
2. Aguila .22 Super Maximum, 1463 FPS, average accuracy, no malfunctions
STDev = 51
When I get a chance to test more velocities, I will post them for your information.
My conclusion for this test is that the short bbl did not loose too much velocity than I thought it would and I think this will be my take it everywhere pistol for the woods. It seem to be very accurate. I hate the grips though. The grips feel just right in your hand but I hate the way they look (it makes it too bulkie).
Is there any other problems that this pistol have that I should be aware of? What mounts can I use to put a red dot scope? Thank you.
