Looking at building a rifle on a Savage action in 35 Whelen.  I've been reading about swaping out barrels on Savages and wondering if anyone here has done it and what is involved etc.

I have not done it, others with your question have been directed to savageshooters.com. I looked it over and it does not seem like it would be overly difficult for a man with a few tools and both thumbs.
Course, that kind of thinking has gotten me in trouble before!

Rebarreling the Savage bolt guns is so popular that Midway was(may still be) marketing a 'kit' with the tools and parts to do the job. The jam nut design of the Savage system makes the critical part of rebarreling, head spacing the barrel, a snap! The parts needed are fairly simple, the new barrel, a wrench for the barrel nut, an action wrench and the headspace guages for the cailber being converted to. The may also be parts needed for the action, such as magazine boxes and bolt heads. Since machine work is already completed this rebarrel is also cheaper than the average one..
