New guy to the world of Encore, thinking of buying one, i just have one question for you all. Do all the barrels come drilled and tapped for a scope? I noticed alot of them were open sights, where do you get them tapped if they are not already?

All the barrels I have ordered were tapped. You either use the screw holes under the rear sight or if no sights on barrel, the holes are there for a scope mount. Some even have the holes for a mount and you can leave on the rear sight. If not any gun smith can tap one.  :D
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

If you were looking for a light recoiling caliber for deer, the answer would be easy............The .257 Roberts
BUT being you added Elk to the mix, it changes things a little. I would probably look into the .280. It has nice energy and marginal recoil(in the grand scheme of things). Just my humble opinion though.

I bought a used .243 brl. that had the factory sights and a scope mounted on it.
