i bought a used barrel in 26-06 and the extractor does not pull out the spent shell.is it worn?or in need of adjustment.i'm new to tc'

You need to remove your extractor and bend it so it will catch the shell. I have do this by putting the extractor in a vise and hitting it with a hammer to bend the extractor. You may have too do it a couple of times to get it just right. Hope this helps. Also, sometimes T/C has put the wrong extractor in the barrel. Twyman

I purchased a new 257 Roberts barrel that Tc had installed the wrong extractor in. A call to TC and they sent the right one and a new spring in a few days. Your problem could also be caused by a defective or missing spring.

My 25-05 barrel used to do the same thing. I took the extractor out but did not bend the extractor itself. I bent the spring to apply more upward pressure on the extractor. This took care of my problem.

What "spring"are you fellas talking about?

I have 3 Encore barrel of which all seem to be purely manual (pressure on the wedge face of the extractor) ejection.....

The spring we are referring to can not be seen w/o removing the extractor. To remove the extractor and spring requires removal of the small rollpin with a small punch and light hammer. The spring is located under the extractor. It acts to push the extractor up against the cartridge case during extraction and also allows the extractor to deflect down slightly when loading a round. The spring is a curved flat type not a coil type. When removing the extractor be careful as the spring is easily lost. Hope this helps.

I would check what they call the spring actually it is a small flat piece of metal that is arched it looks like this " ( " I would bend that before I would start hammering on the extractor itself. You have to knock out that very small pin that holds the extractor in the lug and pull the extractor out slowly the spring like thing sits on top of the extractor.

With the barrel positioned with the sights or scope up in firing position the spring should be on the bottom of the extractor.
