I just added Hiett Redbuffs to all three of my 1911,s. I bought them several years ago while standing around in a gunshop with no clear intention to buy anything. I worked on M1911A1,s as an armorer for about 23 years and shot National Match Courses with them in competition. I tried but never discovered anything which would offer much improvement which I could add to, or take away from the 1911,s.
Nowadays, with all the "rattle-battle" matches being shot by the present generation, I suspect that the 1911,s get quite a beating when the slide bangs the recoil spring guide. Have you guys found any advantage in adding these types of buffers? Do they reduce the shock felt when the pistol bangs open at the end of the recoil cycle? I have seen slight indentions in the guide in pistols which were shot a lot but not enough to worry about. Have any of you seen enough damage being done to the slide and/or the recoil spring guide to warrant adding these buffers?
