Who has a "Survivor" Handi?
« on: September 10, 2005, 05:18:18 AM »
The Survivor in .45 colt/.410 is the only Handi left on my "must-have-soon" list.  But no stores in my area have one.  Maybe I'll find one at the Oct Wannemacher show, or special order one.  Who has one, and how do you like it?  And a specific question about the shotgun patterning.....ok, the screw in chokes are ostensibly to impart a nice patterning ability to the shot load before leaving the barrel.  However, the shot is going to be spinning already at that point from the rifling.  So can the short smoothbore really impart a patterning ability, or will the inertia from the rifling spin make it a less-than-optimal shot pattern?  If the latter, than how bad is the pattern, relative to a true smoothbore?  Thanks.

Haven't seen too many posts on their effectiveness as a shotgun, most have been on how well they shoot bullets, those that have put sights on em said they shot good, FWIW.

There's one in the Classifieds in case ya missed it....

OK, thanks Tim!  No I didn't see that classified - those links all help me.   :D

I must say, only $13 more for a nickel finish is not a bad deal 'atall'.

I've got a survivor in .45/410.  The screw in choke is not a smooth bore  it is a 2" straight rifled section, this stops the spin of the shot.  In my gun I get a full pattern.  When I take out the choke the pattern is very open out to about 15 yds., then a hole biggins to appear in the center.  You must remove the choke when shooting slugs or buckshot.  Mine likes the 3" shells over the 2.5" shells.  I also reload for both the .45 and the 410 and my gun likes warm, not hot loads.  My loads are right out of the book and just under the max listed ( averaged from all my manuals).  Hope this helps........lost
