OK, I just got a new Survivor in .410/.45 colt. With a little judicious packing, I was able to get 30 rounds plus the choke tube key in there, as follows, with the survival-scenario intended game noted:
-12 rounds of 2.5", #6 shot (rabbits, squirrels, small birds, etc.)
-12 rounds of 3" magnum, #4 shot (turkeys, ducks, geese, beaver, racoon, etc.)
-6 rounds of .45 colt, with 250 gr Hornady XTP bullets (deer & hogs)
-choke tube key
The theory on the round selection proportions is that I need less rounds for larger game, because on a successful hunt, the meat will last much, much longer (deer or hog with .45 colt) in the winter anyway, or spoil in the summer, in which case I won't be trying it to begin with; hence I don't need many .45 colt rounds. Actually, on this theory, I should probably cut the 3" magnums down to say, 8 rounds, and thereby up the 2.5" shotshells to 16 rounds; something like that.
This gun is fun...can't wait to shoot it. All that extra weight in the stock will make recoil nil.
Now I just need a rear sight instead, or perhaps a mid-barrel bead, like some shotguns come from the factory. I want the mid-barrel bead for the .45 colt shooting. The front bead is fine for shooting shotshells, but if shooting at game with a single bullet, obviously more precision is desired, and it's difficult to instantly tell whether the front bead is centered.
