I was given a good price for a 338RUM Just wondering is it really worth all the extra cost to feed,recoil, muzzle blast etc. compared to the Win Mag

Its really not that much more expensive to feed than the 338 WM. Especially if you reload. I have been shooting a 225gr Accubond @ 3150fps out of mine. It is much flatter shooting than the 338 and beats it out in the energy department too. If you found a good price on one I wouldn't think twice about picking it up. The only drawback to the RUM is that you really need the extra barrel length. You need at least a 24 preffereably a 26" barrel to get the most out of it.

Never shot a .338 Remington Ultra-Mag, but my pre-'64 Winchester Model 70 "Alaskan" (std. 26" barrel) in .338 Win. Mag. is ALL the "rifle" I wanna shoot... especially off the bench-rest.

My handloads... a 210 grain Nosler Partition bullet @ 3020 fps... is more than "enough rifle" for anything that lives in the New World and, even with a 10½ lb. rifle, it gives all the recoil I can "comfortably" handle. No one shoots very well with "flinch-itis"!

Jus' my 2¢ worth... other's opinions may differ.

Between the muzzle break and the limbsaver recoil pad my 338 Ultra doesn't kick too bad at all. It weighs in right at 8.5 lbs. It doesn't kick any worse than my tikka 338 WM used to.

As a handloader I would love to have a .338 RUM. If the recoil was too much (it would have to work hard to approach the recoil of my .45-70 but can't get there) I would just download it to .338 WM levels.

The 338 RUM is a great rifle and I have a brake on it that I can take off for hunting. You CAN down load it also.

The 338 RUM is a real power house and is capable of taking anything that walks. The recoil is not as bad as some will tell you, just get a good recoil pad.
Reloading makes the 338 RUM very flexable and affordable to shoot too.
The 338 RUM is my FAVORITE!

Hi JD338 is right. The Rem 338 U mag is a better rd. 338 U mag pushs the bigger bullets better. I like watching the hunting show Christensen Arms there is one guy that hunts on there all time. And he uses a 338 Rem U mag to take every thing around the world. If i had to pick the 338 Win mag or the 338 U mag the U mag would go with me. VM

No not yet. It still stares at me from the rack but I am waiting to see what remington finds with a 243 I sent backto them for some chambering trouble before I start sinking money into a new project. Hopefully soon I will pick it up. Not quite sure what I need it for other than making a big bang
