What ammo has anyone had success with in their 99's ?

For me it`s Winchester Super X, 150 gr Power point but Federal is not far behind. In fact my 99 .300 shoots both equally well.

I handload my own for my .300 Savage in my 1953 Savage Model 99 "EG" lever action rifle... a 150 grain Nosler Ballistic tip, boat-tail bullet in front of a maximum charge of IMR4895 rifle powder (a maximum load, according to my reloading manual) sparked by a Winchester standard large rifle primer in once-fired Winchester cartridge cases with all the "accurizing tricks" done to the case.

This combination yields a muzzle velocity (24" barrel) of an average of a chronographed 2680 fps... about 50 fps ("feet-per-second") faster than a 150 grain factory load and gives me .7 to .75 inch, 3-shot groups at 100 yards off a bench-rest with my 3x-9x variable scope set on "9x".

To get the "most" out of any rifle, you MUST handload.  While factory loads are a lot better than they use to be 20 or 30 years ago, they still can't compare to a well-put-together handload done by an experienced handloader.    :-)
